nothing is forever, darling

Set to the hauntingly beautiful music of Rufus Wainwright, this coming-of-age piece by Joshua Blake Carter reflects the bittersweet journey of self-discovery in a big city. Inspired by Joshua’s own experiences, it tells the story of a young man whose world expands with new people, places, and possibilities—only to find himself growing apart from a once-deep love. As Wainwright himself once said, “Nothing is forever, darling,” a sentiment this dance brings to life with raw emotion and elegance.

Originally created on members of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in 2016, Sean Aaron Carmon’s fever dream takes you on a journey of raw emotional depth. This dance is a breathtaking exploration of what it means to be vulnerable, laying bare the truths that leave us wide-eyed and deeply moved. As the story reveals the intricacies of a relationship, you’ll find your heart responding viscerally—long before your mind unravels the layers of its meaning.

Joshua Blake Carter’s Take A Gambol blends nostalgia, sass, and style. For the first time ever, our dancers are stepping out in heels for a fierce, elegant take on contemporary dance. Don’t miss this historic performance!
