CARMINA BURANA October 20–23 | Indiana Repertory Theatre

Carmina Burana is an epic production that has become one of Dance Kaleidoscope’s signature works. The production is divided into two parts: Act I “The Day'' and Act II “The Night”-- depicting two facets of life, the light and dark. The work opens with a mesmerizing abstraction of the mythical Wheel of Fortune, and then Act I continues to uplift us with depictions of a fantastical wedding, friendship, and birth. Act II will move you with its portrayals of war, witchcraft, and an homage to victims of the AIDS epidemic. The piece concludes with a jubilant dance of Angels, and culminates with the return of the Wheel of Fortune, symbolizing that through good times and bad, the Wheel of Fortune will always keep spinning.

Carmina Burana is timeless. The music was composed by Carl Orff in 1936 (almost 100 years ago) and DK’s dance interpretation was choreographed by David Hochoy in 1995, and it is still every bit as relevant, moving, captivating as the day it premiered. Its use of choral music, as well as the Martha Graham vocabulary root it in tradition; yet its evocative storytelling and production aspects make it a spectacle for any audience member.

New performance times: Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 7 PM, Sunday 2 PM

WONDERS OF THE WORLDJanuary 12–15, 2023 | Schrott Center for the Arts

This world premiere concert takes the audience on a world wide journey to the Seven Wonders of the Modern World. These Wonders include Chichen Itza (Mexico), Machu Picchu (Peru), Taj Mahal (India), Great Wall of China (China), Christ the Redeemer (Brazil), Petra (Jordan), and the Coliseum (Greece). This concert features treasures from the DK repertory such as “Writing on the Great Wall '' and “El Salon Mexico,” along with new choreography by David Hochoy, Stuart Lewis and guest choreographer Norbert De La Cruz III. Norbert is a Juilliard graduate who was born in the Philippines, raised in Los Angeles and is known for creative versatility.  New costumes by Erica Johnston, most recently recognized for her work with DK in “Sweet Sorrow,” and Barry Doss, acclaimed costume designer returns for one final collaboration after a 30+ year relationship with Artistic Director David Hochoy.

This is an opportunity for Dance Kaleidoscope to celebrate different cultures around the world and fulfill one of the tenets of our mission: to educate– not just educate our audiences about dance, but educate our audiences and ourselves about these historical Wonders and the cultures they belong to.

New performance times: Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 7 PM, Sunday 2 PM

MAGICAL DECADES TOURMarch 23–26, 2023 | Indiana Repertory Theatre

This performance features excerpts from Hochoy’s 2007 work “Magical Mystery Tour”-- a crowd favorite with wild, 60's inspired fantasy costumes, joyful dancing and of course a multitude of the Beatles’ magical music. Some of the Beatles songs you’ll hear include “Here Comes the Sun,” “All You Need is Love,” and “The Long and Winding Road.” Select pieces from DK dancers’ choreography from “Vinyl Vision” featured at the 2022 IndyFringe Festival will round out the show to fashion a full evening of music from across the decades. This performance is especially fitting for families with its colorful, nonstop action.

New performance times: Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 7 PM, Sunday 2 PM

INTIMATE DK STUDIO SERIES | May 4-7, 2023 | DK Studios

SCHEHERAZADEJune 1–4, 2023 | Indiana Repertory Theatre

David Hochoy’s "Scheherazade" is inspired by “A Thousand and One Nights” and it embodies the magic of storytelling and the imagination as stories shift from the abstract to narrative as told through dance, visually stunning costumes and lighting. The full cast of dancers portray Scheherazade, a princess, a prince on horseback, a witch and her minions.

This work premiered in Indianapolis in 1995 and it’s fitting that this is the last work of the 2022-23 Legacy Season. The rigorous and pulsing grande finale showcases the stamina and pinpoint coordination of DK dancers always at their peak.

New performance times: Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 7 PM, Sunday 2 PM
