Artistic Director David Hochoy is creating a World Premiere that will investigate same-sex marriage, Les Noces. Igor Stravinsky's music of the same name was created as a "dance cantata" to tell the story of a wedding between a man and a woman. "I wanted to challenge myself," said Hochoy, "to see what would happen choreographically if I worked with female/female and male/male partnering."
The music will be a challenge both for David Hochoy to choreograph and for the dancers to perform to. "Stravinsky's music is not simple," says Hochoy. "The dancers can never stop counting." Listen to excerpts of Les Noces (The Wedding) here. David Hochoy's Les Noces is made possible by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and Wayne Zink.
Chicago choreographer Brock Clawson makes his Indiana Premiere, setting his innovative piece Nine on Dance Kaleidoscope. He describes his inspiration for this piece as laying in the grass on a beautiful, sunny Spring day, looking up at puffy clouds against a deep blue sky. Learn more about Brock on his website. Brock Clawson's Nine is sponsored by Kinney Dancewear.
David Hochoy's Afternoon of a Faun (2008) is a sensual coming of age piece set in an exercise studio. One young man is surrounded by three beautiful nymphs who tempt him, leaving the young man wondering if they are real or imaginary. David's choreography for this piece has been called hypnotic, dream-like.
