Company Blog

This past we we started work on our opening concert of the 2010 - 2011 season "Mad for Musicals."  I have invited Nick Owens, the past artistic director of the Kenyetta Dance Company to share the choreography of the program with me, so we both had the dancers every day for a session.  Nick started by working on a song from "Rent" and I chose to start with the overture to "Candide."  For those of you who know it this piece of music is fast, breezy, cheerful and full of life and we had a wonderful time putting some zany antics to the infectious rhythms.

Happy Summer everyone!  The dancers came back to work on July 5 after having 6 weeks off.  It was good for everyone to have some time for their bodies to rest and heal, and now it was time to get back in shape.  Usually the third day back is the hardest with the bodies being extremely sore, and this time was no different.

Most of the dancers had Monday off because of Spotlight 2010.  I was involved with rehearsals all day for the event which went off very well and which raised $367,398 for the Indiana Aids Fund.  Our dancers Timothy June and Noah Trulock performed For Jose beautifully, and received a huge ovation from the audience.
